Returned home today. Last evening, journalists from Meerut - TopicsExpress

Returned home today. Last evening, journalists from Meerut informed me that the young woman who had created a sensation in July-August of this year by alleging that she had been abducted, gang-raped and forcibly converted to Islam had gone to the district police to seek protection from her own family. The truth was - and after my visit to her and her family on 9th August, I had said in the AIDWA press statement that her statements were contradictory and that the district administration must conduct an enquiry and see that justice is done - that she had entered into a relationship of her own free will with a young Muslim man. Her parents had come to know the facts and she was afraid of honour killing. Today the young woman has given her statement before a magistrate. AIDWA demands that a) she be given full protection; b) her parents be warned that they cannot take the law into their own hands; c) all those arrested because of her earlier statements to be released and cases against them withdrawn; c) members of the BJP and others who took advantage of the situation at the time to spread communal hatred and provoke communal rioting to be punished with all severity. What a shame! Will Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath and others apologise? Of course not.... But their supporters must think about the repercussions of the irresponsible, criminal behaviour that these so-called leaders regularly indulge in. Subhashini Ali
