Returned last night from a short three day trip. We went to Hannibal where Bob graciously let me walk around the campus of Hannibal LaGrange College reliving sweet memories. As I looked at the Arch which has become a symbol of the college, I was reminded of a 19 year old Paul Rowland who spent some time repairing the arch when it was part of the old Administration Building. When that building burned a number of years ago, the Arch was salvaged and incorporated into the walkway leading to the new building. Several years ago I purchased a Memorial Brick for him and it is placed in the walkway leading to the Arch. Since he does not have a tombstone anywhere, this seems to me to be a very fitting memorial for a young man who got a start in a career he truly loved at that small college. After leaving Hannibal, we drove to Springfield, Illinois and took in the Lincoln sights. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and thought the different presentations were very well done. The weather was beautiful, we had good food in local restaurants and enjoyed the time away.
