Rev. William Barber, leader of the Forward Together Moral Movement in NC, gave a powerful speech last night to an audience of 700-800 in Boone. He led us through the three reconstructions of American history: the first being immediately after the end of the civil war; the second during the civil rights era,; and the third at the present moment. I only wish more students would have attended because they needed to hear the message of hope through dissent, moral outrage, and courage. I sat next to him at dinner last night and I also experienced his down-to-earth humanity.
