Revelation Lesson 2 Pg 1 HEAVEN UNVEILED - Chapter 4 John has been invited to come up here and see what heaven looks like. Paul had a similar experience (II Cor. 12:1-6), but was told not to tell what he saw. John was commanded to write what he had been shone. First notice Throne is The voice he has heard before - the voice of Jesus- is going to speak to him again and tell him things. It is a vision so amazing he can hardly put it into words. Artistry in words - he is painting a picture. The scene is breathtakingly beautiful. ..almost defying description. Green rainbows, golden crowns, thunder and lightning, blazing lamps. You can almost see Johns eyes darting from one thing to another. In trying to describe God, himself, he can only compare this with two of the most brilliant gemstones he has ever seen (jasper and carnelian]. There is a peaceful aspect to the whole scene expressed as sea of glass. It is a sharp contrast to the disturbances on earth (from Chapter 6 onward). It shows God reigns supreme above all the battles between good and evil. He is not surprised by anything. He Knows exactly what is happening and what will happen. And now he is sharing this information with John and all the others who have read and are reading the book of Revelation. It is at this point that the book of Revelation becomes much more difficult. We will come back to familiar ground when we get to the last chapters; but the middle section is strong meat. It requires concentration. Why? It is stretching our imagination beyond the things we know and telling us of things we have never seen. First of all, the scene now moves from earth to heaven. We are in heaven now and that is another world. Many people do not even believe in its existence. Not only do we leave earth behind, we leave human beings behind, but, we see thousands of angels. Secondly, we move from the present to the future. It is-easier to imagine the present or past rather than the future. We cannot imagine what life will be like thirty years from now. Thirdly, we move from the sinful to the holy. We know what it is like to be sinful; we do not know what it is like to be holy. This is a different clean world. What is it like to go into a clean, holy world? Fourthly, we move from the human world to the divine world. We now look at. things through Gods eyes. We dont look up any more, we look down - a new perspective because when we think of heaven we tend to look up. But, in the next few chapters it is as though we are up on a throne and seeing the earth and the universe in a different perspective. Chapters 4 and 5 Stimulate Our Worship. There are 5 hymns of praise in this section. A number of hymns have been based on these two chapters. This section of Revelation has made people want to sing. (V. 2-3) John looking through the door sees a throne and realizes he is looking at THE throne room - THEcontrol room of the whole universe. If you please. From here, stars were told to go into orbit. Earth was flung into space. Everything which came to be was created. Throne - is a place of power and a place of judgment. A place from which orders are issued and to which appeals are made. This is what the word throne means. It appears 19 times in these two chapters. We are in the royal palace. There is serenity about the throne -
