Review: Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan. As per usual - TopicsExpress

Review: Interstellar directed by Christopher Nolan. As per usual in a Nolan film there are multiple narratives and I would argue that Cooper and Brand are his most satisfyingly realised characters yet. Anne Hathaways ambitious flawed lovelorn scientist Brand plays well against Matthew McConaugheys earthy acerbic single Dad engineer Cooper. Its Nolans most emotional film and McConaughey is absolute perfection conveying the self serving interests of a brilliant man who decides to sacrifice the love of his daughter to maybe save the world. I was looking forward to seeing Hathaways chemistry with McConaugheys bombast and wasnt disappointed. She is a fine actor and its great to see her in unlikable mode. So the world will end soon and its left to Brand and Cooper to fix it. This idea of finding a new home for humans and saving the world is undermined continually in the story which I really appreciated right up to the final scenes where we learn the eternal human lesson: love is everything. Its worth the 3hrs viewing also the effects and look and feel are stunning. Matt Damon is brilliant in a small crucial role. Mr Nolan has fascinated me since day one with Memento. This film continues his preoccupation is on an epic canvas and he has excelled. 4/5 stars
