Review: Momos @Bittu da Dhaba I’ve been craving momos for a while now so on @Anu Patels recommendation, we headed to Bittu da Dhaba Opp Vatrsapur Lake, Near Sanjivani Hospital. The Momo Stand is run by Pappu Bhai +91 8511394067. You can choose from Veg, Paneer and Cheese momos and these can be either steamed or fried. He also makes non-veg momos on Saturdays and Sundays. It is a good idea to give him a call and pre-order non-veg momos (Rs10/pc). We had Steamed Veg Momos, Fried Paneer Momos and Fried Cheese Momos. Veg Momos: The filling was of cabbage, carrots, onion and ginger; lightly salted and not over-cooked so it was still a bit crunchy. The dumplings were bit-sized, exactly how I like it. If it’s too big, it tends to break and unfold after the first bite, specially if the skin is too loose/moist. The skin was perfect, not too thick, dry on the outside but still soft on the inside. Paneer Momos: The fried paneer momo was my personal favourite. The filling was paneer bhurji, with some onion, cabbage, ginger and green chilli making it crunchy. The covering was golden but not overdone. All the momos had a dash of chat masala but this is where I loved it most. Somehow paneer and chat masala just works, like in paneer tikka or paneer pakoda. Cheese Momos: I’m not a big fan of cheese but if my cheese-loving friends drooled over these the most. The filling was processed cheese with some green chillies but the texture felt like cream cheese. The covering was light golden, garnished with cheese. If youre a cheese fan, you will love this! The HOT sauce: The highlight of the platter is the chilli sauce. It is HOT! I really relish hot and spicy food. I was a regular at Nandos for their Extra Hot Peri Peri Chicken. So when I say its hot, its really hot! But what’s a dumpling without a hot sauce that sets your tongue on fire. Value for money: 8 pcs at an avg price of Rs 50 per serving seems pretty reasonable. I’d give that 9/10 Taste: I haven’t had better momos in Ahmedabad so far...8/10 Ambience/service: For a street food joint, my only expectation is basic hygiene and a host who is glad you came. For that I give it 8/10 Overall: 8/10 I will definitely visit again!
