Review of Senang by Jocelyn Chng for The Flying Inkpot. Reflecting the patois of Singapore’s secret society members in the 1960’s, the play was performed in various languages, including English, Mandarin, Hokkien and Cantonese. It was certainly refreshing to hear some of the characters speak entirely in Hokkien or Cantonese, languages that have long been relegated to marginal status for political reasons, but that undeniably form an important part of Singaporean Chinese culture. #Senang
