Reviewing the photos and with my experience at the match, I wanted to talk equipment. A poor swordsman blames his tools so I wont say I did better if I had better gear but this is what bothered me. 1.) AF Hema mask - This really bothered me it slid around my head, I have their Medium sport mask with the extra padding and it remains solid. I have a rather large head so if you are thinking of getting a mask I recommend jumping around with one on and make sure it stays secure. 2.) AF Gloves - These suck, (I know I said I wouldnt blame the tools but I think my where did my sword go? moment can partially be blamed on them). AF already revised them but if see a second hand pair just keep walking. 3.) AF Advanced Throat Protector - another one I would avoid it kept getting bound up in the masks flaps and kept sliding off ended up taping it for my last match. Also I am not entirely convinced its stiff enough in the trachea area to really help more then just being another layer between the mask bib and the jacket collar. 4.) SPES Knee Guards, again kept sliding around and had the elastic as tight as possible but overall performed well didnt take a hit to them so cant speak to their efficacy. 5.) SPES Jacket - Awesome 10/10 would buy again. 6.) FOX elbow and forearm guards also decent although a bit tight over the jacket. Anyone else learn something about their kit once they actually competed in it?
