Reviews and Debates Clarification about Plagiarism Accusation Slavoj Žižek zizekstudies.org/index.php/ijzs/article/view/481/518 A few thoughts to ponder on .... from Maria Aristodemou and Brian Prager off another Post/Thread Maria Aristodemou: Isnt it more important to ask why such accusations catch like wild fire when the target is zizek? It seems to me people cant get enough of trying to bring him down, in any way possible. This article was written in 2006; we should wonder, what was the motive behind suddenly, in 2014, reading it against an article written in 1999? Sloppy background research on his part, as he admits, as he was in a hurry to focus on the ideas he was about to criticise. But the motive behind the plagiarism accusation is altogether different and I fear more sinister. The following is comments from Brian Prager: Brian Prager: The only essential point concerning the accusation which circulated to shitty corporate mag Newsweek was made by Maria Aristodemou , which is to ask (not necessarily to answer) why it should be that Zizek is a beloved target for publications, television and podcast hosts, and others who get pleasure from joining in the frequent tarnishing of his reputation. His personal quirks inclusive of his psychological predilections, possible sometime carelessness with citations, the difficulty of thinking with Zizeks sense of antagonism in the subject which cant be easily reduced to traditional forms of Marxist critique, these are all enough of a hook to hang the mess on. My personal view is that the quirks and carelessness become quickly unimportant; and the long-standing difficulty of reconciling the psychoanalytic subject w/ Marxian thinking will go on as it should.
