Revitalizing the Cameroon Economy and Empowering The Cameroon - TopicsExpress

Revitalizing the Cameroon Economy and Empowering The Cameroon Youths In urban areas of Cameroon, many youths are faced with more difficult issues like rising cost in land and housing. The cost of purchasing a plot today as compared to 1999/2000 has quintupled meanwhile the population has not gotten to catch up with this fox-trot development. A plot of about 30x60 m² five years ago was about 1.2/3/4 million CFAF but today the cost has gone up almost four times to about 4.5million CFAF. This data however is based on areas at least five miles outside the CBD. Within the CBD the cost of a plot is worth lives. Unfortunately this rising cost has not been met with equitable rise in the standards of living of the common man. This rise equally implies the common man who is not eligible for any job needing qualifications has to remain under the burden of terribly paid unskilled jobs. The notion of Capitalism as expressed in the Western world has one major problem apart from price fixing and control. The problem of class and bridging the gap between the haves and have-nots has crept into our economy unnoticed and it is prime time for the business class to wisely invest their capital towards alleviating the status of the common man meantime profiting from their endeavours. Coupled with the creeping inflation experienced by Cameroon today, it has become very difficult for youths to have access to jobs that would enable them have decent accommodation and have average meals daily. The result is the formation of a very stubborn youth population leading to urban insecurity, gang life and terrorism. It is common knowledge in capitalism that investment means as much profit as possible from the widow’s mite invested. We also know that investment on cheap labour has always crumbled invaluable projects. As such the investor has to be current with market and work pricing as well as be ready to sponsor local experts to undertake her/his investment. Youths graduate every year from our universities yet find it difficult to get employment. The question rests with the educational curriculum. These youths however need work experience and it is only the capital of the business class that can make this happen….investing in diverse local income generating projects.
