Rewilding is a controversial issue. It involves stepping back and allowing natural processes to take over. Recent studies show the over sixty percent of Britains native species are in decline. Rewilding has been touted as a radical new way to reverse this decline. Huge tracts of the British countryside have been unwilded. The main drive of conservation has been until now management. As if nature could not care for itself. Rewilding Dartmoor is a group that seeks to understand rewilding. To assess its merits and to dispute its validity. Dartmoor is itself one of the locations where rewilding could take place. It is sufficiently large and has lost a considerable amount of its diversity. Its a precious landscape that bears the scars of 6000 years of human management. Should we allow nature to reclaim what was once hers, or should we seek to maintain it as we presently find it?
