Reza Aslan continues to push the idea that Harris and Maher were essentially condemning all Muslims, which is simply not true. I understand the fears of Islamophobia and the worries of our bigotry once again contributing to fear and loathing among the Muslim populace. This doesnt mean that we can sit back and pretend that we dont have issues-major issues-with the ways so many countries are using Islamic doctrine to violate what we consider universal rights. Silence in this case is hypocrisy. If we can decry homophobia, gender inequality, violence etc., at home, we must, without resorting to generalization or hatred, decry it everywhere. Reform and a move away from radicalism must be encouraged, and we need to vigorously support those who can be reformers in these countries.
