Ribbon cutting ceremony today at the Niverville Heritage Personal - TopicsExpress

Ribbon cutting ceremony today at the Niverville Heritage Personal Care Home. Nice facility, very nice. The ceremony? Disappointing. The CEO rightly acknowledged the work of the nuns and the priestly founder of their order, but completely ignored the care and work of his own forefathers (and the majority of ours). The mayor was meticulous about greeting and thanking the audience in both English and French, while completely ignoring the vernacular of many of the seniors who will be moving into the facility. And the politicians! They (2) tripped over their tongues complimenting each other and their staff - shamelessly. They did little more than throw up road-blocks and finally, when all their demands were submitted to, gave a nod to the project. Pathetic. But hats off to the local visionaries, contributors, businesses and tradesmen - and the foresight of our fathers 45 years ago. When they wanted to build a personal care home, they were denied permission. The government back then told them that Niverville had no seniors (those forced to move to other facilities due to lack of services here were not eligible). So our forefathers first built Pleasant Plaza, Niverville Place and Silver Courts in order to build an elderly population, and even now the minister of health had to be cajoled. Very nice facility though and the minister of health tried valiantly to bask in the light of the accomplishment today.
