Ribery: Messi and Ronaldo scored more goals, but I won the Treble Bayern Munich attacking midfielder, Franck Ribery recently spoke about being one of the top three finalists in UEFA’s Best Player of the Year award and the Frenchman feels he deserves to be in the catagory because of all the trophies he won last season. In recent interview with German sports daily, ‘Sports Bild,’ Ribery, who is looked onby most journalists as the third place finish behind Cristiano and Messi, but he feels he has a decent shot at winning because of all the titles. “Messi and Cristiano scored more goals than I did, but I took the Treble. And in this ballot, trophies are always important. Messi and Cristiano are great players, but I think Ihave a great chance of winning the trophy.” RIbery then recounted, once more, that he was very close to joining Barcelona in the 2008-2009 season. “In the 2008-2009 season, Abidal tried to convince me to leave for Barca. It crossed my mind, but I had a contract. Pep Guardiola fascinated me, because not only is he a great coach but he’s a great person. For this reason, I was very excited when he decidedto sign with Bayern.”
