Ribs & Ringworm... Our greatest fear, is that our horses end up as a rescue cases. It is for this reason, that our Owners are fanatical about our racehorses well being, post their racing careers. In fact most end up retiring to either Eagles Crest or being re-schooled for a new life at Serendipity ~ as Show jumpers. Our founding Owner is a Life Member of the Thoroughbred Trust and has often been a catalyst in both national & international fund raising, to raise funds for destitute horses. Little did we know, that the very cause that we fight for and try to prevent, was actually happening to our very own Fillies in training, in the greater Johannesburg area. In this situation, our shock, horror and total dismay, is beyond words. These photos were taken on the day of our Fillies arrived at their new Trainer in Summerveld, after we were alerted to their condition. It is for this reason, that we now race our own horses privately. This has not been an isolated case, as previously we have had another Trainer, who leased 12 horses from WMM, taken before the National Horse Racing Authority of Southern Africa. He no longer is a Trainer. We never micro manage any of our employees or any member of our Team. We believe they will always act in the best interest of our horses. The same principle applies to professional race horse trainers, whom we enter into contractual obligations. As this is the second case, in as many years, our owner ~ HSH Countess of Königsberg, is now of the opinion that Trainers who mistreat clients horses, should not only have their training licences revoked, but should now face criminal action too. Our horses never asked to be abused nor neglected ! ! *(When one zooms into the photos, it highlights their poor state. The dark bay fillys pelvic bones is so visible, that we could actually hang a hat on it, whilst the chestnut filly too is in poor condition, has advanced state of ring worm all along the girth line).
