Rich MAN, Poor MAN (The reversal of Fortune) Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly, I say to you, it will be “hard” for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of heaven. Again, I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of the needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.” Why did Jesus pronounce these strong words against the rich people? This was Jesus’ response about the rich young man who came to Him asking how he can obtain eternal life. The rich man was told by Jesus to sell his possessions, give to the poor, so that he will have treasures in Heaven and follow Him. He was unhappy when he heard this and he turned away sorrowful; the reason, for he had great possessions! What happened to the rich man? He went back to his business and he had bumper harvest in his farms. He had so much produce that he had to tear down his barn and build larger ones in order to store all his grain and goods. And he said to his soul, Soul you have plenty of goods laid up for many years, relax, eat and have a good time! He was enjoying his success, buying the best clothes and having sumptuous meals everyday. There was poor man at his gate and his name was Lazarus (God has helped). He desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. Subsequently, Lazarus died and was carried by the Angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried, and in hell being in torment, he lifted his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus in his bosom. And he called out, “Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.” But Abraham said, “Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner evil things; but now, he is comforted and you are tormented.” What a reversal of fortune! Jesus said, “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his own soul! The disciples said to Jesus, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus said to them, “with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.” That’s right; we need God to save all of us. That’s why God sent his Son that whoever believes in Him will have “eternal life.” What must you do? Repent of your sins NOW! And receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour! Find a Bible believing church serve God and fellowship with the family of God. Follow Jesus the rest of your life and you will be saved! If you are a Christian, do NOT desire to be rich! Why? Because in order to achieve your desire, you will be tempted to lie, to cheat, to steal and defraud other people putting yourself into a lot of trouble. But if a Christian is diligent, industrious, smart and God blesses him so that he becomes rich, then that is alright! If you are a rich Christian, do not be proud or trust in your riches but in God who is the source of all riches. Be rich in doing charitable works thereby laying up for you riches in Heaven which has eternal values!
