Richard D. “Dan” Kelly Richard D. Kelly, 88, of Palatka, went to be with his Savior, family, and friends Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He transitioned peacefully at home, under the care of Haven Hospice. He was born October 4, 1925 in Manhattan, New York City to James F. Kelly and Jesse Adams Kelly. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother James Francis Kelly, Jr. and two sisters, June Kelly and Grace Kelly Mohr, and is uncle to their surviving children. After his discharge in 1945 from the U.S. Navy, Mr. Kelly resided in Palatka with his wife of 64 years, Louise June Kelly, deceased August 4, 2009. Mr. Kelly retired from Georgia Pacific Pulp and Paper Mill in Palatka after 40 1/3 years in March 1988. During his tenure there he held the positions of Crane Operator, President of Local 598, Representative/ Organizer of the International Brotherhood of Pulp Sulphite & Paper Mill Workers, Supt. Tissue Shipping and Warehouse, Asst. to Customer Service Manager, Kraft Warehouse and Shipping Supt, and Tissue Process Paper Supt. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a Boy Scout Leader and played on a baseball team during his younger years. He and his wife and family enjoyed camping in the NC mountains. He was a man of integrity, cherished and appreciated by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by three children, Kathleen K. Green and husband, Raymond of Palatka, SFC Richard D. Kelly, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret.) and wife, Deborah of Palatka, and David S.M. Kelly and wife, Myra of Bardin. He is grandfather to Lory Denney and husband Mike of Interlachen, Mark Howell and wife Ann of Forney, Texas, Christy L. Thomas of Palatka, Ricky Kelly and wife Dana of Tallahassee, Michael Kelly and wife Jennifer of Palatka, Staci K. Pendry and husband Shawn of Jacksonville, and Jennifer Kelly, Palatka. He is great-grandfather to Mindy D. Deangelis and husband Dominic; Gabriel, Cameron, Samantha, Mariah, and Emily Denney, Ethan and Catalina Howell, Zoey Thomas, Taylor and Daniel Kelly, Cade and Conner Pendry, Jacob and Isabella Kelly, and Aziua Chaney. He is great-great grandfather to Mia, Haiden, and Sophie Deangelis. Extended family members include Michael and Kathy Green & families of Orange Park and Richard and Selene Green & family of Casselberry. Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29th at the Calvary Baptist Church on South Palm Ave. with Dr. James Obrecht officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial gifts may be made in Mr. Kelly’s memory to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177. Friends may sign the online register at themastersfuneralhomes.
