Richard H. Colman 2/10/1934 - 10/25/2014 Class of 1952 Richard “Dick” Colman, 80, a life long resident of Rock Island, died Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Dick was born February 10, 1934 in Rock Island, the son of Ray and Elodie Colman. He was a 1952 Graduate of Alleman High School and studied Horticulture at the University of Illinois. He married Sharon Wachholz in 1960. Dick served two years with the Army in Panama. A third generation florist, Dick devoted over 50 years to the family business, Colman Florist, and to the floral industry. Dick served on the Board of the Illinois State Florist Association and was elected ISFA President in 1978. He was also a member and served on the Board and as President of the Iowa-Illinois Florist Club. He was also a District Representative for FTD. During his career in the floral industry Dick was involved with numerous shows and events. He received many awards and in 1978 won the prestigious National SAF Sylvia award. He also taught many floral design classes in the Quad Cities. Dick was also active in the community as a member of Kiwanis and TPA. He was a staunch supporter of Alleman High School and headed the decorating committee of the Heritage Ball fund raising event for 40 years. Dick enjoyed watching sports, especially Alleman football and basketball. He was also an avid photographer and landscape gardener. He enjoyed watching TV. Among survivors is his wife, Sharon Sheri; children, Christine Colman, Moline, Michelle Colman, Carpentersville, IL and John Colman, Queens, New York; siblings, Lou Rae Hoogerwerf, Iowa City, IA, Charlotte Light, Davenport, Gerald (Kathi) Colman, Coal Valley, Patricia (Ken) Belvel, Bettendorf and Pamela (Dennis) McCullough, Muscatine, IA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronnie.
