Richard Hillman is arguably one of the most memorable soap baddies of all time, and he is coming back to haunt the cobbled streets of Coronation Street once again. Hillman (Brian Capron) made his mark in the show as being the first ever almost-serial killer in its history after he took his work as a life insurance salesman far too seriously. /* HE Slots */ if ( window.GlamSetRtbSlotAttribute ) { } /* End HE Slots */ /* HE Slots */ if ( window.GlamSetRtbSlotAttribute ) { } /* End HE Slots */ After trying to kill Emily, an attempt which was scuppered by Maxine Peacock who he bludgeoned to death for her efforts, Hillman then tied his family, the Platt’s, inside his car and drove them all in to the river. Luckily the rest of the family made it out alive, whilst the only watery grave that Hillman managed to secure was his own back in 2003. So how can he be back? Bosses in charge of the former Granada Studios set, which has been open to the public as a tourist attraction since the show moved to its new home in Media City UK, Salford Quays, have signed Brian Capron, the actor who played killer Hillman, to take part in a Halloween themed tour, entitled Horrornation Street, between October 27 -31. The Daily Star newspaper quotes the actor as saying of his new role: “I had some fantastic storylines during my time on Coronation Street. Richard was such a sinister and eerie character – I’ve certainly got some ghastly stories to share from his years of murderous crimes!” Meanwhile there may be more heartache in store for one of the show’s most unlucky-in-love characters, Maria Connor. Ever since she first arrived on the cobbles of Weatherfield, Maria (Samia Ghadie) has not had the best track record when it comes to men. First of all her first love, Tyrone (Alan Halsall) cheated on her and eventually left her for current partner, Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine), then her next man, Charlie Stubbs was brutally murdered by Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford). Then she moved on to Liam Connor, who got her pregnant and married her, only for her to lose their baby in the last weeks of pregnancy. Maria fell pregnant again but, before she even had a chance to tell Liam, who was having an affair with his sister-in-law Carla (Alison King). He was killed by Tony Gordon, who Maria then hooked up with, before he was exposed as a killer and burned to death in a factory fire. After this she had a brief fling with Jason (Ryan Thomas) which Maria ended when she developed feelings for gay midwife, Marcus, only for him to then cheat on her with Jason’s brother, Todd (Bruno Langley). This sent the mum of one over the edge a bit as she started a campaign to get Tyrone back, but after that failed and she was exposed as being a bit unstable, life has been relatively quiet for the local crimper. But that is all about to change when she embarks on a new relationship with local pretty boy, Luke Britton (Dean Fagan). embargo 1 july coronation street carla luke (4) But will it be happy ever after at last for Maria? Samia Ghadie, the actress who plays her, isn’t holding her breath. Discussing the situation in a recent interview with The Mirror newspaper, the star revealed: “She might actually find happiness at last – or will she? It’ll probably end in tears like it always does.” However, the former Dancing on Ice star did go on to admit that she is enjoying working with Dean Fagan, the actor who plays Luke, explaining: “It’s really nice to be working with him. “You kind of get used to [filming love scenes] after all these years with all Maria’s romances but it’s great when your co-star is nice and you get along.”
