Richard Holt (Daily Telegraph) writes about how kids today will miss out on really fun things like taping the Top 40 chart hits from the weekly radio programme. I used to do this as a kid too. Believe me, if you did that as a kid, you had an awesome childhood. These days, its all downloadable digital songs and clips. Recording the Top 40 from the radio was a Sunday night event. And I didn’t just sit and listen while it was on, there was rapid work to be done with the record, play and pause buttons (nothing so simple as one-touch recording in those glorious analogue days) to make sure I got as little Bruno Brookes on tape as possible, without cutting into any of the tracks. The idea was to make a near-perfect recording that I could enjoy playing over and over again, until next week’s show. It seemed amazing to me that I could listen to 99 Red Balloons and Together in Electric Dreams – yes, I really was that cool – as many times as I wanted for nothing more than the price of a reusable C90. telegraph.co.uk/men/the-filter/11086840/Taping-the-top-40-todays-kids-are-missing-out.html
