Richard, Its a new year and theres a new Congress in session, but anti-immigrant Republicans in the House and some state governments are still trying to make life harder and more dangerous for undocumented people and their families. Last week, House Republicans attached five different amendments to a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security that--if signed into law--would not only kill programs that provide relief from deportation, but also roll back other enforcement reforms that keep immigrants with no criminal record from being priorities for deportation. Meanwhile, 24 states are suing the Obama administration to delay administrative relief programs, or to cancel them outright. Our movement faces many challenges. Sign up for the National Community Call to find out how you can fight back for administrative relief and our families! Our movement has fought tooth-and-nail for every form of protection for immigrants and their families--Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) in 2014, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) in 2012, and major enforcement reforms in 2010. In the coming weeks, the Senate will debate, amend, and vote on the DHS funding bill passed by the House, and a judge in Brownsville, TX will rule on whether DACA and DAPA are constitutional or not. With so much going on, theres a lot of information out there--some of it true, some of it false--and we need to make sure our entire community has the facts! Sign up today for the National Community Call to get the most up-to-date information about administrative relief, the different ways anti-immigrant Republicans are trying to intimidate and stop us--and what we can do to fight back! United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the government agency charged with processing relief requests, is expected to begin accepting applications for expanded DACA in February and for DAPA sometime in April or May, but the bill that Republicans in Congress passed would kill both of these programs before they even have a chance to go into effect. In the courts, a bad ruling could delay the application processes for months--critical time needed to enroll our people and show that these programs benefit Americas immigrants and the country at large. We need to rally together to let our opponents in Congress and the courts know: we wont tolerate attacks against immigrant families!
