Richard Javad Heydarian believes the US budget woes should not be - TopicsExpress

Richard Javad Heydarian believes the US budget woes should not be considered a problem for the US pivot to Asia. It could even lead to a leaner and meaner American military. I think we need to deconstruct that phrase which has become a tired cliche. leaner does not necessarily mean meaner. a leaner high-tech army does not necessarily win wars because wars are not merely military contests. wars involve the whole panoply of a states prowess from its strategists to resources to moral standing. i believe the privatization of the US war effort (aka Blackwater and other private actors) is a serious undermining of the same. War had become such a cynical (no longer noble to encourage the troops and the folks back home) venture for Americans that almost none protest the daily murders through drones. In facing up to the Russian and Chinese challenge, the US needs to refurbish not only its diplomacy, its military, but also its moral image. At the moment, its just another dirty black pot. China and Russia can play dirty and get away with it because they did not pretend to be clean in the first place and thats their advantage. The US has always styled itself as the white knight but is often caught with its pants and dirty drawers down. The briefs may be Calvin Klein or Hugo Boss but theyre still filthy. Meanwhile, the mendicants in Malakanyang are rejoicing mistakenly believing that increasing rotational presence of US troops in the country will help deter or discourage the Chinese. Will these idiots ever learn? Realism, the protection of ones own national interests, not kumbaya, is the bedcore of any self-respecting states foreign policy and relations. I guess I answered my own question.
