Richard and I are having a quiet evening at home... I have a small ham in the oven and gingered sweet potato/squash soup being kept warm in a crock pot. Im fixing homemade Au Gratin potatoes, roasted asparagus with lemon-garlic sauce, a tossed salad with bleu cheese crumbles and warm crescent rolls for our dinner and Ive prepped munchies and dips for later tonight (such as a hot crab & artichoke dip). The white wine is being chilled for tonight. I also have beans soaking for a 15-bean soup that will be seasoned with the meaty ham bone and the usual onion, garlic, celery, carrots and other necessities to make a hearty soup -- which I will start in a crock pot tonight and make available all day tomorrow, along with crusty bread and whatever else is leftover from the appetizer spread tonight... were expecting some drop ins tomorrow and so the soup and other nosh-ables will be in the kitchen, along with champagne and strawberries and cookies, to greet everyone who comes over to wish us good cheer. Its a plan and we think it will be just fine! I may even stay in my loungy-kind of PJ bottoms and a sweatshirt all day tomorrow. I love kicking back on New Yrs Eve and New Yrs Day; it is the perfect casual close to the more frenetic and demanding Christmas meals etc. In the past I always hosted a big New Yrs Day brunch (when I was back home in IL) for family & friends but this year I am definitely enjoying the minimalist approach!!! AND YOU??????
