Richards (2004): The unpopularity of politics can be attributed in part to the failure of political actors, and of the professional communicators they work with, to respond and adapt sufficiently to the ways in which popular culture has now transformed society. In particular, there is an emotional deficit in contemporary political communications, a lack of crafted, sustained attention to the emotional needs of the audience.
