Richmond Hill, High School Updates: In Ms. Punzo’s Photoshop class, we are creating our own fashion lines. Students have been learning various design methods for their fashion lines. In the next couple of weeks we will be having our own Project Runway where students have to create outfits based on the theme of the week! In World of Work, students are learning how to find a job. Students have been working diligently on their resumes. In Art in Focus, students are working on their OP Art designs. Students are learning how to make their images stand out. In Media Arts/Advanced Publisher, students are working on their Film through the year’s project. Students received a certain decade and they are making a slide show of those movies in Movie Maker. Later this week, students will be learning about Stop Motion Animation. Students have been working on Flyers and invitations in Publisher. Environmental Science: Students in HR#6 are working on various biomes across the world. Major biomes include tropical rainforests, temperate rain forests, temperate deciduous forest, temperate evergreen forest, and taiga. Students are working in pairs to complete a peer tutoring research project in which students work together to become an expert on a specific biome, collect information regarding the biome by working in pairs and then jigsaw in class to teach the students about their researched biome. Marine Biology: Students are completing independent research projects geared towards pollution and environmental issues. Some issues include oil spills, human impact on environment, the cove dolphin, and recycling and conservation. Biology HR#9: Students are working in groups of 3 in order to master various cycles witnessed in nature. These cycles include; The Phosphorus Cycle, The Nitrogen Cycle, The Carbon Cycle, The Water Cycle. Students are breaking down their given cycle into steps and creating a visual representation of the cycle. Students then will teach the class about their cycle as the students listen and take notes. This method of peer tutoring will allow students to be exposed to a large amount of material in a shortened period of time through jigsaw teaching. Biology HR#7: Students will be introduced to taxonomy and the classification of animals. Taxonomy is the science of classification of organisms. Biologists classify organisms based on their evolutionary relationships, using a hierarchical system of grouping by shared features. Students will identify that each organism is classified into a kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. Example Kingdom………………………………………….. Students will be taking information from a given set of data of the fur seal population and graph the population trends over a period of time.
