Rick, thanks for the letter of support! After reading the letters from Raymond supporters on the Pasco Police Department, the election will decide if the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department will continue to be an independent force or controlled by Pasco PD. A commissioner told me the cost of switching to the 800 radio system, that Pasco wants the Franklin County citizens to pay for, would require 3-5 communication towers at $1,000,000 each and $4,400 per radio compared to $450 for VHF radios. Sheriff Lathim wants to use a 800 radio patch system which is much cheaper and allows continued service to the rural areas. The 800 system would also require a tax increase to pay for the system. Furthermore, the adjoining counties of Adams, Whitman, Columbia, and Walla Walla counties all use VHF radios, and deputies wouldn’t be able to communicate with them anymore. The deputies voted to endorse Richard Lathim because they feel his leadership is superior to Mr. Raymond. They operate with and know both men. Vote to re-elect Richard Lathim.
