Ride Your Bike Over a Work of Art! Cyclists can pedal over a path inspired by Van Goghs Starry Night A brand-new bicycle path inspired by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” will be officially open to the public near where the artist lived in 1883. The one-kilometer work of functional art, designed by Daan Roosegaarde, is made of thousands of glowing stones that store energy during the day and glow at night for up to eight hours. Made of 50,000 fluorescent pieces embedded in concrete, the bike path’s effect is one of star-speckled brilliance—a swirl of glowing colors against the night sky. The Van Gogh Path project is part of Smart Highways, an effort to build interactive and sustainable roads that harvest energy and interact with traffic.
