Rigell Votes To Delay Implementation Of Burdensome Health Care Law For Businesses and Individuals. Supports plan to empower patients, preserve doctor-patient relationship, rein in costs. Washington, D.C. – Today Congressman Scott Rigell (VA-2) voted to delay the implementation of the individual mandate and the government requirement for large employers to provide health insurance to employees as outlined in the Affordable Care Act. “The Administration, by its own admission, recognizes that this law is not ready to be implemented and will hurt businesses,” said Rigell, referring to the White House’s recent announcement that it would delay the employer mandate. “Why, then, should we subject individual Americans to the same pain, many of whom are already hurting because of the sluggish economy?” A recent survey by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce found that one-half of businesses impacted by the employer mandate will either cut hours to reduce full-time employees or replace full-time employees with part-timers to avoid the mandate; 24% say they will reduce hiring to stay under 50 employees. Rigell continued: “I have been – and will continue to be – a strong advocate for repealing government-run health care and replacing it with a common-sense approach that will provide access to affordable, quality health care for our friends and neighbors while addressing the growing cost of care. My friend and colleague in the House of Representatives, Dr. Tom Price has proposed a bill that moves us in that direction, and I’m proud to support that.” After fully repealing President Obama’s health care law, the Empowering Patients First Act (H.R. 2400) would replace it with solutions guided by four main objectives: ensure access to health coverage for all Americans; rein in out-of-control costs; solve insurance challenges of portability and pre-existing illness; and improve the health care delivery structure.
