Right and thoroughly Scripture Do the best you can. Work as though you are working for the Lord, not any earthly master. Colossians 3:23 Meditation Charles Spurgeon, the famed nineteenth-century British preacher, had this to say about work, and the proper attitude to have about the significance of daily responsibilities God has given you: “Don’t hold back because you cannot preach at St. Paul’s; be content to talk to one or two in a cottage; very good wheat grows in little fields. You may cook in small pots as well as big ones. Little pigeons can carry great messages. Even a little dog can bark at a thief, and wake up the master and save the house. A spark is a fire. A sentence of truth has heaven in it. Do what you do right, thoroughly, pray over it heartily, and leave the result to God.” The Lord has blessed you with many tasks that impact a variety of people. At home you may be a spouse or parent; at work you may be an hourly employee or a supervisor; at play you may be a sibling, friend, or acquaintance. In all these scenarios you have responsibilities to fulfill and relationships to maintain. You’ll be most effective when you adopt the attitude of today’s verse, and inform all you do from the principles of God’s Word. Prayer Heavenly Father, please help me to read, apply and accomplish Your will and Your Word in all the work you’ve given me to do each day. I adore You, Lord! Amen.
