Right now in Springfield, House Speaker Madigan, Senate President Cullerton, and state legislators are working on legislation to stop Chicago from increasing its minimum wage. They could cut a deal this week to make it illegal for Chicago to pass its own minimum wage. Take action now to stand up for Chicago working families. Food, rent, and other necessities cost more in the city. The cost of living is on average 20% higher than the rest of the state. If Springfield locks in our minimum wage to the state minimum wage, they will be locking Chicago families into poverty. This has big implications. If Springfield political leaders and big corporations get their way, they will destroy the tradition of Chicago making policy for Chicago. We can’t let that happen. We need your help to protect our families and preserve home rule. Right now, corporate lobbyists like the Illinois Retail Merchants Association are doing everything they can to pass this in the next few days. If we want Chicago to work for working families, we need to act now. Help fight back!
