Right on her due-date, Mama Isabelle hosted a ‘pigging out’ event in the “labor lounge. More evidence that there is ‘night life’ in Down East Maine! Twelve active piggies came in to the world between 9 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. We stayed throughout the night and morning (well, still taking shifts) to TRY to create ‘safety’ for the piglets. We encourage her to nurse 3 or 4 each time; hard to keep the ‘big piano’ from crushing them as she rearranges her 500 lb self! Isabelle does lots of loud ‘woofing’ -scary, but found if we hold a baby in front of her ON THE GROUND, she stops her advance. She does have a WICKED right hook, and almost landed on the floor as she tried to re-arrange her dirt/hay nest ..and even more excitement on the schedule, as Marmalade may ’pig-out’ tonight! Why is it NOT OK for them to undergo this process in the daytime???
