Right, today is the day off and so it is finally the day to unwind. No, nothing being shared on postings with M R Project Solutions, today is my day in Jeddah. I spent the morning walking along the Red Sea Wall and then had a short walk around the city; I returned after three hours as at 11 am the temperature had reached a lovely 32 degrees and it was still rising to where it is now in the middle of the afternoon at 37 degrees, hence I am sat on my balcony looking over the Red Sea port and relaxing. So, where is it and what is it, time for a quick lesson on Jeddah. Jeddah is a city in the Hijaz Tihamah region on the coast of the Red Sea and is the major urban center of western Saudi Arabia. It is the largest city in Makkah Province, the largest sea port on the Red Sea, and the second-largest city in Saudi Arabia after the capital city, Riyadh. With a population currently at 5.1 million, Jeddah is an important commercial hub in Saudi Arabia. Jeddah is the principal gateway to Mecca, Islams holiest city, which able-bodied Muslims are required to visit at least once in their lifetime. It is also a gateway to Medina, the second holiest place in Islam. Today is Friday the first day of the weekend and what would be Sunday to us; I have been listening to the calls to the mosque whilst watching the rolling waves of the sea, sound idyllic, it is. I will be returning again in June and have already been given a warning, the highest temperatures then will reach 50+ degrees and so I am likely to resemble an over cooked lobster. I have taken some pictures and just wanted to share with you what a wonderful place this is and to demonstrate the the preconceptions some might have about life in the middle east can be somewhat wrong. Have a wonderful weekend to you all, I will be back working tomorrow and Sunday before returning home late next week.
