Rightio, I now have a list of questions for candidates. Here it is - do you have anything to add before it goes to them? 1. Funding cuts have affected the scope and services offered through our regional TAFE campuses, reducing the quality and availability of further education and work skilling on the Southern Downs. This has repercussions for our workforce, apprenticeships and the desirability of the region as a place to live. If elected, what plans do you have for restoring or improving education and/or skilling pathways in this region? 2. What will your party do to foster/encourage small business in this region? 3. What are your thoughts/policies about how to foster more renewable/smart energy industries in the region for longer term benefit than ‘dirty energy’? 4. What is your response to the comprehensive AgForce qld policy? 5. Services to youth on the Southern Downs have been cut in recent years. If elected, will you fund programs to address youth upskilling and job creation, youth homelessness, and other support programs that foster resilience and tackle drink/drug problems, underage pregnancy, etc? Would your party fund a youth centre/hub? 6. Will your party fund a community diversity/cultural worker or multicultural program for this region, as this currently doesn’t exist to our knowledge. 7. The lack of bulk billing doctors in the region is greatly concerning, and especially affects those on low incomes, pensions, etc. What are your plans to improve equitable access to healthcare in this region? 8. Are you aware of the facilities and services, including living arrangements, for the disabled and special needs people of our community? What gaps do you see and how would you address them in this region. 9. According to one of our question submitters, Queensland is currently the only state that doesn’t contribute towards financial counsellors for families and individuals. With Federal funding for this service possibly ending in February, this may leave the Southern Downs with no (subsidised) financial counsellors. Can you articulate how you see this need being met under a government led by your party? 10. Anything else?? - remembering these are questions specific to our region - for general policies you can check out Vote Compass.
