Rights to Neighbours I praise Allah the Glorious creator of the Universe, for his boons and bounties. We ask Him to send his choicest blessings on the beloved and final prophet to mankind, Muhammad (saw), his family, his companions and all those who follow him with sincerity until the Last Day. My topic is about the Rights to neighbours. It is basically the duty and truth you have to fulfill to the one that lives near you. I shall also include in this the qualities of a good and a bad Muslim neighbor. Some qualities of a good Muslim Neighbor Some qualities of a good Muslim Neighbor are protecting your neighbour’s honour, concealing their faults, helping them when they are in need of it, lowering one’s gaze from his womenfolk and keeping your neighbor from anything that would harm them. Most of all, a good Muslim neighbor must show kindness, friendship, mutual support and good treatment towards their neighbours out of the fear of Allah. One should do this out of the fear of Allah because it might be his only entrance intoParadise as well as seeking a great amount of blessings from Allah by treating his neighbours well. It is stated in a Hadith:Narrated by Abu Huraira, The Prophet said, “Whosoever believes in Allah and in the Last Day, he should not harm his neighbor.” Kindness to neighbours was recommended by the prophet (saw) in the following Hadith, that even he taught that it was treating his own family. It was narrated by Aisha that the prophet (saw) said: “Jabriel continued to recommend me about treating the neighbours kindly and politely, so much that I thought he would order me to make them as my heir”. Another good quality of a good Muslim is sharing his wealth and food to his neighbours even if they are non-Muslims. A good example of this is displayed in an incident that took place during the Prophet (saw) time. One of his companions named Abdullah who had feared Allah and was kind to people had a Jew as his neighbor. One morning he sacrificed a goat for his family to eat that evening and left his house to go about his business for the day. When Abdullah returned to his house that night, the evening meal was placed before him. He and his family were just about to start eating when Abdullah asked his family if they had given some of the meat to their neighbor. They replied that they had not given any to the Jew because he was not a Muslim. “What!” said Abdullah, “He may be a Jew, but he is still our neighbour. The messenger of Allah has often reminded us to be kind towards our neighbours, even if they are not Muslims. I will not anything until he has been given some of this meat!”. This story shows how Abdullah feared Allah and also how he obeyed the Prophet because he knew that a Muslim should not leave his neighbor hungry while his stomach was filled. Some Qualities of a bad Muslim Neighbour Some qualities of being a bad neighbour are not protecting his honour, not concealing his faults, not helping him when he is in need, not lowering the gaze from his womenfolk, and letting everything toharm them. A bad Muslim is therefore deprived of the blessings of faith, has no fear for Allah and does not want to enter Paradise for helping his neighbour. This is the worst type of people to be categorized in. In conclusion, I would like to ask you to help your neighbour in any way you can and also to always make them happy. Please remember the following Hadith on the rights of a neigbour and save yourselves from entering the fire of Hell. The Prophet (saw) said, May Allah forgive me if I have made an error in this essay and guide us all on the straight path..Inshaa Allah and Ameen. ;
