Riley is having some really great days! School is going well and he is working hard in therapy. Riley was up very early this morning so he could meet at the pole by 7:00am. He is always determined to still be apart of things that were important to him before the accident. Today was no different. Proud of him and the rest of the students who attended. Riley was back home by 8:15 and soon we were off to Dallas to pick up his manual wheelchair. He was pretty excited, we all were and overwhelmed with emotions when he saw it. He was happy, despite knowing he isnt capable of using it on his own yet. To him though, right now it means being able to sit at a table when we go out to eat and not having to worry about finding a place out of everyones way. (Not that we worry about that but he does). To sit at a table, something so small but means so much. A wheelchair, a small wheelchair that made him light up and me cry. He tried hard to push the wheels today, they are electric so a small shove will go a long way. He is so close to making what he has work in it! It was good to see more of him and less of the equipment that he depends on. Its amazing how last year his world, our world was completely different. Today was a great day despite the emotions it brought up inside. Riley talks about getting his arms and his hands back all the time. He talks of being independent again. Today was a new day of getting one step closer to that. Hope that some day, in Gods time he will push those wheels and he will use those hands. Today I was reminded of how far he has come, how we have come. We used to pray for him to just live, to breathe on his own and to eat on his own despite knowing the nerve damage in the area was great. Those prayers were answered and I know that our other prayers will be as well. Trust is still a big word for him and us, trusting Gods plan everyday. Please continue to pray for Riley. Pray for strength so he can continue to work hard. Pray that his body starts to open up to signals that will make it work again. Karla (mom)
