Rim Fire Information: The Rim Fire has increased in size and scope and is not yet contained. The reports received varied in acres burned from approximately 130,000 acres to 170,000 areas. Frankly, I am not sure which number is accurate, but either way it is an enormous figure of acreage burned. Ø Eleven (11) strike teams have been placed in the neighborhood communities along the 108 corridor from Twain Harte to Sierra Village for added protection of residents and businesses. Ø Roads leading into Tuolumne City remain blocked and only residents are allowed to enter. Ø 208 people as of last evening were registered in the Red Cross Shelter in the Sonora Area Fairgrounds. Ø 158 people are still out of PG&E power, mostly on Hwy 120 in Groveland and the area above (Buck Meadows). Ø The current Unified Fire Command Team has formed a first ever “Super-Team” to manage the fire and is now being used as a nation-wide model. Ø The pre-fire clearing around PML (Pine Mtn. Lake) is being credited with saving that community and is also being used now as a nation-wide model for home owners. Ø Well established fire lines have been cut around many of the towns impacted by the fire. Today, (Sunday) winds are estimated to be as high as 40-45 MPH.
