Ring recoveries are an essential part of owl rehabilitation. Below - TopicsExpress

Ring recoveries are an essential part of owl rehabilitation. Below is a ring recovered from an owlet that was released through the EcoSolutions release programme. It was found dead 266 days later and 12kms from the release site. Preliminary autopsy results indicate poisoning, although a toxicology report is still awaited. The 266 days post release indicates that the owl had fledged and was surviving on its own. This type of information is critical to our knowledge as it helps to indicate release procedure success and provides data on fledging distances and survival rates . If you do come across a dead owl in the Gauteng area, please contact us. With out sounding too macabre, we would love to have a look at it.
