Rio Vista House in Mildura, North Western Victoria. The Queen Anne Style house was built for William Benjamin Chaffey in 1889 and occupied by the Chaffey family from 1891 until 1950. George Chaffey and his brother William Benjamin arrived in Mildura in 1886 where they established the first irrigation scheme in Australia in the Mildura and Suraysia regions following great success with irrigation in California, the Chaffey brothers, originally from Canada. Through their vision and achievements the area has become part of the food bowl of Australia. Mildura City Council purchased the building in 1950 and was restored and became part of the Mildura Art Gallery in recent years.
