Riots break out in Mazabuka Riots broke out late afternoon of Wednesday in the town of Mazabuka, about 120kms south of Lusaka forcing business to close as residents fought running battles with the Police, reports Zambian Eye correspondent. By 8pm local time, the situation had not normalized in the town that hosts Sugar plantation in Zambia. The Police had managed to push the rioters out from the central district towards the township. Our correspondent at the scene says the rioters were resisting and mobilizing while some were seen throwing stones at any vehicle passing. The Road to Nakambala had been blocked at the bridge. While a mob was seen at the town’s main market, Nakambala forcing businesses to close. The follow of traffic had been disturbed as vehicles passing through the town to or from Livingstone to Lusaka could not pass. The situation remained tense by press time though the Police was busy pushing the rioters from town. The residents decided to riot following the death of a street vender who was alleged beaten by a police officer at Mazabuka Police Station and died Wednesday morning.
