Riots in Vienna last night at the demonstration against the right extremist networking event, the Akademiker Ball in the imperial hofburg palace in the center of vienna. Dozens of Shops gott attacked by black block actions in the exclusive shopping streets of the historical downtown vienna! Also, police station Am Hof got attacked and two police cars got smashed (see video). The police strategy - a restriction zone around the Hofburg - got totally smashed only 9 minuted after the official end of the first of two synchrone demos, when the leftist international block overrun bad protected police grids of the restriction zone just behind the State Opera ... Starting at 6pm yesterday, January 24th, 6000-8000 antifascists took the streets in 2 demonstrations at the same time and totally overthrew viennas police tactics. ### OGR ALLIANCE DEMONSTRATION ### First, the demonstration of the OGR-alliance (left and communist groups and organisations, alltogether about 5000 participants), moved without incidents from the University to St. Stephans Square in the middle of the inner district. Just in the moment they arrived there, the internationalist block, over 400 people, moved on and ran over nearby police grids at the Albertina Square behind the State Opera. The restriction zone was broken! The police from then on never gained full control of their own restriction zone until midnight. Even though, 2000 riot cops were in charge, they didnt expect so much action going on and were not able, to be everywhere, all the time. So most of the time, people and action groups could walk freely in the inner city. (enormous) police interventions - at least 75 police mini-busses around the Karl-Renner-Ring for hours - were seen at the blockade points. ### noWKR ALLIANCE RIOTS ### The second demo, the autonomous/anarchist no-WKR-alliance (about 2000-3000 people), which included a black block of about 300 people, started at the Public Transport Junction Wien Mitte (Vienna Central) and had their route through the inner city to reach Schwedenplatz about half an hour later. There, the black block started rioting, smashing the window of a ORF Broadcasting Van and quickly moved to Wipplinger Street, where they smashed dozens of shopping windows and even a jewelry. At Stephans Square, police tried to stop them, but the protesters used flashbangs and other pyrotechnics to confuse and then attack the police, so they moved away - and the black block went on, taking the big luxurious shopping street Am Graben to smash several shop windows (Eduscho, Fancy Accessoire Store) They then moved on to the square Am Hof, where they smashed a police car and attacked the police station there. ### BLOCKADES ### The police was too busy running behind the black block, so that almost the whole restriction area around the hofburg was without police presence at the grids, which were overrun several times. So it was very difficult for the right extremist Burschenschafter and other guests to reach the ball - 800 tickets were sold, but only 400 came! A few years ago, more than 1.500 people attended the ball, among them Marine Le Pen (Front Nationale, France), De Wilders (Vlaams Belang, Netherlands), and all other kinds of european right wing party leaders or right extremists. Several times, the police kettled hundreds of people. Behind the Burgtheater, theyve beaten up some protesters very hard inside a kettle. Also at the Karl-Renner-Ring, where over 100 people were kettled until 11pm - they all got prompted. Most kettles were only temporarily, where people could leave free after a shorter or longer time ... ### V for Vendetta ### After the actions, police moved to the Academy of Fine Arts, where a Open Day was going on and some protesters went there too, because they guessed that some rioters from downtown hided there. When they reached the building, they stormed it with police dogs and arrested one person. They then were pushed out, but police came with about 300 cops to surround the building. just after 4 hours and several arrests outside of the uilding, they gave up, because the head of university talked to the media, calling it a scandal. ### POLICE VIOLENCE ### At least 14 people got arrested, dozens were injured by police, several seriously. More is not known at this moment. but in german, there are already press releases of the demo alliances and members of it: - VSSTÖ: Massive Polizeigewalt gegen antifaschistische Kundgebungen / ots.at/presseaussendung/OTS_20140124_OTS0197/massive-polizeigewalt-gegen-antifaschistische-kundgebungen - noWKR-Bündnis: Erfolgreiche Proteste gegen Akademikerball trotz massiver Polizeigewalt / ots.at/presseaussendung/OTS_20140125_OTS0002/nowkr-erfolgreiche-proteste-gegen-akademikerball-trotz-massiver-polizeigewalt - VSSTÖ: Nach Polizeigewalt: Infozentrale wird zu Lazarett - BILD / ots.at/touch/presseaussendung/OTS_20140124_OTS0199 video related - https://youtube/watch?v=KIfCbsT9wZg#t=107 via europeans against the political system - https://facebook/eatps
