Rising Cases are caused by lack of health facilities to take in - TopicsExpress

Rising Cases are caused by lack of health facilities to take in our infected compatriots. They get infected and ideally, they should be immediately moved away from their communities and taken into holding and/or treatment centers BUT the required facilities are just not there and so infected compatriots are being abandoned out in the communities; there they continue to infect others. This is then increasing the number of cases of those whom the deadly virus has been transmitted to. Furthermore, we still lack enough laboratory services to speedily diagnose those who should be taken out of the communities. Thus Ebola and Malaria patients continue to cohabit in villages and towns and even inside the cities; not knowing who has what! :-( It is a VERY vicious cycle in Sierra Leone right now. There is some amount of helplessness in the situation even as huge helicopters from Britain and the UN hover our skies. However, I will be remiss if I fail to highlight the tremendous work that is being done by the 100% SIERRA LEONEAN MANNED Treatment Center at the Hastings Police Training School compound which has been simply astounding in their successes so far. Over 50% of those admitted there are being discharged. An amazing percentage. The best we had before was 35% from the Kailahun MSF Center. I sometimes wonder WHERE we would have been as a capital city without that gracious offer by Inspector General Francis Munu for the Treatment Center to be hastily built in the PTS compound. The role of the Sierra Leone military doctors whom are mostly manning the PTS Center is fantastic and so laudable. Long live the Sierra Leone Military and the Sierra Leone Police. NB: Dr. Martin Maada Salia is meanwhile reported as stable and comfortable in the hands of our capable Sierra Leone doctors. Plans are reportedly afoot to ensure he gets World Class treatment but so far, the good doctor is safe at Hastings.
