Rita is a female brindle cane corso, about 5 years old and scheduled to die at noon today. My Animal ID # is A1020524. Rita is New Hope rescue only (see below for info on New Hope rescues). Rita’s behavior evaluations says: Rita pulls a bit on the leash, but when the handler wasnt close enough she would stop and wait until the handler was closer. Rita was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. She was distracted and hard to position mouthing the assessors hand, muzzle punching and became a bit tense, but showed no aggression. She became uncomfortable during paw handling leaning in, head flipping and mouthing the assessors hand, but did not growl, snap or bite. During tag she became tense, quickly turning to the touch. Rita showed some concerning behaviors when handing the leash to the observer, she leaned into the assessor giving a hard stare becoming stiff and growled at the observer. during the food item she was stiff and cannot be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite, she had minimal interest in toys and took the rawhide away, with stiff body language. During the dog-to-dog interaction Rita approaches the helper dog, body is tense, ears erect, high tail wag, and growls. Due to the concerning behaviors displayed during the assessment, Rita should be placed with a new hope partner who can later assess in a home-like setting. There are over 200 New Hope rescues.
