Rivalry week in football was here on Friday, as the Rogers Mounties visited the Rogers Heritage War Eagles for the Rotary Cup, and bragging rights all year long between the two schools. In the first half, Rogers has able to go up 21-7. However, in the second half, the War Eagles came back with the help of some Mountie turnovers, and mistakes. After our last turnover at 1:50 in the game, the War Eagles drove down and got the go ahead score with 26 seconds left to lead by 23-21. However, Rogers got the Kickoff and got past midfield. They failed on the next play, but a personal foul by Heritage gave the Mounties 15 yards closer with 4 seconds left. Amazingly the coaches elected to give Ryan a shot at the 46 yard field goal to win the game, as Ryan had been hitting from 50 yards in practice. Of course this was the moment that Ryan had been working for all these years, a long kick with the game on the line. Unfortunately, Heritage sent two rushers to try and block the kick from the left side and they got thru unblocked. Ryan caught them coming in from his periphery, and adjusted his kick and missed the Field Goal. Obviously, Ryan was devastated as he felt like he let his team down. Fortunately, Ryan is resilient, and he will just work that much harder. The next morning we had his visit to the University of Arkansas Engineering Program scheduled, so I think that also helped him out of the funk, as we was able to see where his future would be at, and I think he is pretty excited about that. Oh, yeah, the video was from the opening kickoff, and we were stuck behind the student section, so after he kicks off all you can see is the confetti flying.
