River Welland Fathered by the Grand Union Canal, The old time - TopicsExpress

River Welland Fathered by the Grand Union Canal, The old time river knows no boundary; Channelled like an artery from the heart of Mercia Gently sustaining, town and country. Curving through the arable fields Of old Rutland county; Gathering pace to flow upstream To seek her sea faring bounty. Navigating through the Islands of stone Built by the hands of a Stamford mason. Baring a brood from her swelling womb To irrigate the fen, which purveys a nation. Caressing the outskirts of Spalding; Cornerstone of Norfolk and Lincolnshire. Meandering through many destinations Of John Clares beloved Cambridgeshire. Ceaselessly beckoning from the wash Calls out a journey that takes eternity; A never ending circle of life, Flows the spirit of ancient maternity. Written by William Shaun Milligan 2006 ©. A poem I wrote about the local area where I live and the surrounding areas. Thought I look up some of my older poetry as a change from the political and spiritual themed pieces.
