Road Safety Week from Jan 11 to 17 Transport Commissioner reviews arrangements JAMMU, JANUARY 03:- Emphasizing on creating awareness among the general masses, particularly the youth, about the road safety measures and traffic rules, Transport Commissioner Dilshad Khan stressed for observing 26th Road Safety Week with a mission to ensure greater participation to achieve the target. Speaking at a high level meeting of officers, convened here today to review the arrangements for observing the 26 th Road Safety Week from January 11 to January 17, 2015, Transport Commissioner asked that all concerning departments should gear up their activities for making the event a grand success. Discussing the event, it was revealed that the inaugural programme would start on January 11 with Walkathon, cultural shows and flagging off a rally from Mini Stadium Parade. It was informed in the meeting that medical awareness camps for drivers would be organized at Maheshpura Chowk on 12 January and at Railway Station on 16 January at 11 am by Health Department and Indian System of Medicine. A bike rally and a debate competition would be held on 14 th January at Gulshan Ground and Government Polytechnic College for Boys Bikram Chowk. Similarly, a painting competition would also be organized at Kala Kendra on 15 th January in which students from school, college and University level will participate followed by award ceremony at Police Auditorium Gulshan Ground Jammu on 17 January. Transport Commissioner asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation and PHE authorities to ensure cleanliness and availability of drinking water at the venues during the road safety week. Arrangements for Police Bike Rally were also discussed. Health authorities were asked to depute sufficient number of doctors for medical check-up of drivers. Likewise, Information Department was asked to give wide publicity to the event, Fire Services Department to arrange sufficient number of fire tenders, Civil Defence, NCC, Red Cross and Bharat Scouts and Guides were asked to ensure for maximum participation of their volunteers in the event. Deputy Transport Commissioner M.L. Raina, ADC Jammu, K.S. Parihar, Regional Transport Officer, Arvind Kotwal, SSP Traffic, Mohan Lal, MD JKSRTC, J.S. Tandon, Joint Director SSA,, Mohammad Iqbal, Deputy Director Information (PR) Jammu, Afshan Masood, GM JKSRTC, R.S. Jamwal, Deputy Director Fire Services, Ashok Wangoo, Secretary Red Cross Society, R.C. Puri, Deputy Director State Motor Garages, Zakir Chowdhary, Secretary JMC, Naresh Kumar, SP Traffic Rural, Ravi Kant, Deputy Director Health, Dr. Gurjut Singh Deputy Secretary J&K Cultural Academy, Varinder Koul besides other senior officers also attended the meeting.
