Roald Dahl used to make subliminal social as well as political - TopicsExpress

Roald Dahl used to make subliminal social as well as political statements in most of his writings, which most people thought were simple Childrens Books :) Filmmaker Wes Anderson not just follows the same route, he went a few steps ahead :) as he adapted one of Dahls novels - the Fantastic Mr. Fox into an animated film. Dahls story was about an intelligent & valiant foxs victory against all odds. He unites all the farm animals, makes them realize their individual strengths (and goes on to utilize them) and also why they all need to cooperate and finally, leads them to outsmart a bunch of resourceful Human Farmers. Hes also a family man ready to sacrifice his life for his familys welfare. Its the victory of a bunch of animals (considered to be dumb and weak) without any resources except their abilities over humans (whore considered to be smarter and physically stronger) who possess all the technological resources with which they can easily wipe out those animals (and attempt to do so many times in the story). The human farmers are a metaphor for the 1% rich and all the animals are a metaphor for all the working classes representing the various races, ethnic groups & nationalities of the world. The Director Wes Anderson makes it even better. He makes the hero, Mr. Fox a suave & sophisticated intellectual (voiced by George Clooney) who preens, happens to be a news-paper columnist and loves fine-dining. And Anderson gives the story a very interesting anti-imperialist twist. The farmers and other civilized humans are all voiced by British actors who speak in Victorian English accents while all the animals are voiced by American actors who speak in hip contemporary American accents (the NYC & Californian ones i.e.) And the ending is like the icing-on-the-cake. The animals celebrate their victory by raiding the most typical symbol of unregulated capitalism - a Supermarket. But best of all, Wes Anderson doesnt make this movie as one of those hi-tech 3D - CGI animated movies that we see these days. He rebels against the system by making it in old-school stop-motion animation, making another subliminal political statement. (y) (y) The combined vision of Roald Dahl and Wes Anderson makes Mr. Fox an anti-capitalist hero as he leads the have-nots to triumph over the haves. Who says Animation movies are only meant for kids?? I strongly recommend this movie to people of all age groups. The more politically inclined you are, the more youll enjoy the movie. 8-) My rating - Awesometacular 10/10. 8-) (y) (y) (y)
