Roatan, Honduras After 5 flights we finally arrived! Its very tropical and very, very, very touristy so much so that when you pay in local currency you get change back in dollars! The West End is a real party town and from what I can tell there are only 2 activities, drinking and diving. But...I do think that most of the folks who have been here a awhile are drinkers with a diving problem or drinkers who used to have a diving problem. Not much Spanish spoken in British Honduras and some of the older folks still speak only English as they only starting teaching Spanish in the schools in the 1980s. Since the economy is strong in the Bay Islands a lot of Spanish speaking Hondurans are relocating from the mainland so being bilingual is helpful. JD found us a charmingly funky apartment in the same place he lives with thatched roof, hammock and all the Caribbean touches. Were staying 7 days for $280.00 in total. We were at Monkey Island last night, where JDs girlfriend, Brooke, works, pigging out on HUGE $1.00 tacos when the power went out on the entire island! This happens a lot so most places just turn on their back up generators, light some candles and carry on. It was kind of fun! David is planning to get a 10 dive package at SCUBA ROATAN where JD works. Were waiting for Ruthie to arrive. She may want to get her Advanced Open Water certification . Since I dont like drinking alone I may go on a diving binge.
