Robbers Strike After Writing Community: A 12-man robbery gang attacked five communities in Ijoko Otta Ifo, local Government area, Ogun state, southwest Nigeria, seven days after writing the residents to prepare for their visit. However, five of the robbers were killed during a gun duel with a police Anti-Robbery team from Agbado Police Station who responded to a distress call. One of the robbers was arrested, while the other six escaped. P.M.NEWS had reported on Thursday, 24 July, 2014 that robbers wrote residents of Elerinko Estate and other areas in Ijoko, asking them prepare for a visit and carried out the threat on Friday at about 2 a.m. •A robbery suspect arrested during an operation in Ijoko •A robbery suspect arrested during an operation in Ijoko But as the gangsters raided Oluke, Okugbolu, Sonekan, Seriki Onireke and Oyero communities, the police arrived and dislodged them. The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Agbado Police station under Sango area command had received a distress call from residents that robbers were attacking the communities and he quickly mobilised his Anti-Robbery team to the area. On sighting the police team, the robbers opened fire on them and there was exchange of gun fire between the police and the robbers which led to the death of five of the robbers. Rasheed Olajide, 27, a native of Adatan Abeokuta, the arrested member of the gang, told P.M.NEWS that their leader who led the operation is a popular land grabber and lives in the area, adding that they were rounding off their operation when the police arrived. Items recovered from the robbers include three motorcycles without registration numbers used for the operation, two locally made short guns, three laptops, 22 stolen mobile phones, jewellery, N85,000, and 20 rounds of live cartridges. While confirming the incident, the Ogun State Command Police image maker, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, commended the gallant effort of the police at Agbado and advised members of the community to report any suspicious movement in their area to the police for quick action. primechronicle
