Robert “Alan” Jones, born August 24, 1950, passed peacefully in his sleep the night of Dec. 19, 2014. The son of Robert “Bob” Jones, a rancher, and Margaret Jones, who served several terms as Moffat County Treasurer, Alan was raised on the ranch East of Craig, Co and graduated from Moffat County High School with the Class of 1968. His classmates and local friends will remember his talent as a great drummer and an extraordinary pianist. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Coast Guard and was able to use his talents as a musician in the Coast Guard band. Upon returning home, he worked for Sid Sather at Sather’s Jewelry for many years and was also a bartender at the Cosgriff Hotel, where he became very good friends with a son of the hotel owner, Jerry Monger. Alan moved to California in the 1980’s, settling in Orange, where he worked as a hospital switchboard operator for 20 years. He was an aficionado of the arts and a great supporter of theatrical and musical events. His favorite pets were cats. He will be remembered by those of us who knew and loved him as a kind, funny, generous and loyal friend.
