Robert B. Knowles, Jr. retires from the Army Geospatial Center today after 34 years of service in and out of uniform. His many successes and achievements include: -Engineer Officer Platoon Leader, Executive Officer, and Battalion Adjutant in the 17th Engineer Battalion -Principal leader and subject matter expert for the Geological Engineering, Water well and Quarrying at the U.S Army Engineer School -Leader of the Water Resources section of the Civil Engineering division in 1990 -Subject matter expert for military Topography, Hydrology and Army Space for the Office of the Chief of Engineers at the Pentagon -Technical Service Team Chief for the 416th Engineer command in 2003 and successfully constructed 220 miles of military pipelines (longest Inland Petroleum Distribution Systems (IPDS) pipeline ever constructed by the Army) -Deputy Director of the Combat Terrain Information Systems Program Office in 2003 -Acting Director of CTIS -Branch Chief of AGCs System and Acquisition Support Directorate -Supervisory Physical Scientist for over 20 Department of the Army civilian -The First Engineer Officer Distinguished Leader Award in 1984 - Earned the Senior and Master Instructor Awards by the U.S Army Engineer School -Created joint partnership with the US Marine Corps of Engineers in 2002, which led to the first ENFIRE system to another service component
